Bobo Banzai is the alter ego of Mark Adam Keele. But, why Bobo Banzai? Many years ago, I was returning from a a small town bar gig in the wee hours of the morning. Jesus was literally at the wheel, in a non-literal sense. Let me explain.
Our bassist’s name is Frank. Besides being the FUNKIEST bassist with whom I’ve ever played, Frank also used to double as an Artist’s Model for a well-known painter who specializes in portraits of Jesus. Frank’s…uh…Jesus’s portrait hung in my own home for many years. Yet, I digress.
While riding in Frank’s pickup truck filled with a PA system, various guitar amps, guitars, basses, and McDonalds® cheeseburger wrappers, Bobo was born. We were discussing future band projects when Frank said, “My next band is going to be called Bobo Banzai and the Happy-time Jam Band.” Lightning struck my brain. I had always wanted a stage name, and now…it came to me from Jes…uh…Frank himself!
